VACCINES

Southern Michigan Obedience Training Club requires that all handlers provide evidence that their dog is properly vaccinated. Puppies must have received at least 2 vaccines for distemper/parvo. All dogs over 5 months must be current on vaccines for Distemper, Parvo, Leptospirosis,and Rabies.

EQUIPMENT and
Methods

SMOTC uses methods which includes encouragement, guidance, verbal
and physical praise, and leash correction. Handlers will need a 6' leash
(preferably leather) and an appropriately sized slip-type training collar. Haltis, Gentle leaders,and electronic collars are not permitted in class. Alternative equipment (body harnesses, martingales, prong collars, etc) and treats/bait may be used with Head Trainer permission. NOTE: Dogs enrolled in Therapy Dog classes must wear a flat buckle collar for evaluations.

FIRST NIGHT TIPS

STAR Puppy, CGC, Therapy, and Advanced Class Handlers will bring your dogs with you (on leash, with appropriate collar) to the first night of class.
Intro to Dog Obedience Class Handlers will arrive WITHOUT YOUR DOGS on the first night for a dog-free orientation and demonstration period.

Handlers in ALL CLASSES please bring a copy of your dog's vaccine records on the first night of class.
